ELECTION OF 1824: |
My cartoon is explaining the presidential election between John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson. Neither of the candidates had enough popular and electoral votes to win. Henry Clay, Speak of the House at the time, got the deciding vote. Soon after the elation, Adams named Clay his Secretary of State. The cartoon is saying since Henry Clay made John Quincy Adams president, Clay expected a favor in return. It also states that since Andrew Jackson did not make any promises, he would not be elected.
